Bayern Munich are leading the race to sign Charlotte FC talent Nimfasha Berchimas. First reported by The Athletic, Transfermarkt can confirm that the Bundesliga giants are interested in signing the player. Berchimas has been on trial with Bayern in the past, and the Bundesliga club has been in close contact with the player ever since.

Sources also stressed that a deal isn’t done and that Charlotte also have seen interest from other clubs. Berchimas has been on trial with Manchester United in the past, and Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation. Sources also stressed that there haven’t been advanced negotiations between the two clubs.

Berchimas won’t turn 18 until February 22, so there was no urgency for Bayern Munich to get this deal done on the final day of the transfer window. Furthermore, Charlotte FC have complete club control over the player. Berchimas is under contract through the 2026 season with a club option through December 2027. That puts Charlotte in a strong negotiating position.

Headed to Bayern Munich? Who is wonderkid Berchimas

Born in Tanzania and of Burundian descent, Berchimas represents the United States at the youth level. The winger scored once in four games for the United States youth national team at the U17 World Cup in Qatar last fall. On the club level, Berchimas has primarily played for Charlotte’s MLS NEXT PRO team but has also featured three times for Charlotte in Major League Soccer. Dynamic and fast, there have been some comparisons with Alphonso Davies, whom Bayern Munich signed from MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps. Whether Berchimas has the same ceiling remains to be seen.
