We Feel Great Disappointment, Here’s What We Must Do in the Next Match

Manchester United coach Michael Carrick appeared in a press statement following the 2-1 loss against Newcastle in the 29th round of the English Premier League at St. James’ Park.

The coach said, “Obviously, we feel a bitter disappointment. We came here to achieve a positive result, and we knew the start would be tough, that they would force us to exert a lot of effort. We tried to manage the game and put ourselves in a position to start strongly, but we didn’t do that. Tonight is very painful, especially the way we conceded the goal at the end, which makes it even more painful. We can be better as a team. It’s a lesson for us, as at some point we were bound to lose a football match.”

He added: “We have been on a good run of results and have put ourselves in a good position, so it’s just one game and we will definitely learn from it. We need to learn from it, and we need to be better.”

Regarding the competition for the spots qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, he said: “It was expected that the competition would be intense, and tonight’s match doesn’t change that. We have put ourselves in this position by winning matches. Tonight is painful, it’s disappointing, but we will get over it and we need to be better in the next match.”

Regarding the match against Aston Villa in 11 days: “There’s no significant difference. Losing a match, especially in this situation, is something we have to accept and understand the reasons behind. We will address it in the next match. We know the period is a bit longer, but it gives us time to prepare.”

He concluded regarding the reason for conceding a goal in the final moments of the match: “It’s not my place to analyze that now. I think we are disappointed with the result, as we could have performed better in the match, and we will strive to improve it.”
