Vinicius Jr refuses to play over ‘racist abuse’ as Real game halted | Football | Sport

The Champions League match between Real Madrid and Benfica was temporarily suspended after Vinicius Jr was targeted by alleged racist abuse.

The incident happened after the Brazil international fired his side ahead when he cut inside and worked some space for himself before bending an unbelievable shot into the top corner from the tightest of angles.

The Real goalscorer was booked for his celebrations, but reporting to the referee that he has been victim of racist abuse, the game was temporarily suspended, with the attacker going to sit in his side’s dugout.

After a stoppage of around 10 minutes, the game eventually restarted, but a red card was shown to a member of the Benfica coaching staff during the stop in play.
