Tottenham’s first deadline day transfer decided as Prem rival raided | Football | Sport

Tottenham, despite their improved second-half performance to earn a point against Manchester City, remain in need of backing. Their Premier League performances have been woeful, illustrated by their 14th-placed standing, and Thomas Frank is running out of time to turn their fortunes around.
A strong Champions League league phase has largely kept him in a job, but Spurs do still need to have one eye over their shoulders or risk repeating last season’s dismal domestic campaign. Reinforcements are required and Express Sport have taken a look at exactly how we would aid Spurs on deadline day…
Charlie Malam – Nathan Ake
Nathan Ake’s not certain of his World Cup spot for the Netherlands given his current game time at Manchester City. He’s started just four of 24 Premier League games. Ake, 30, is a player Spurs are well aware of. He was on their list as a potential recruit in 2018 when he was still at Bournemouth. He’ll be hungry to prove his worth to his country, can play centre-back and left-back, has ample Premier League experience and is out of contract in 18 months’ time. That means he might be gettable today for a reasonable fee. The opportunity for regular starts could turn his head even if City won’t want to sell given their injuries.
Jack McEachen – Kalvin Phillips
Here me out. Kalvin Phillips was at his best at Leeds when surrounded by midfielders who worked their socks off for him. Spurs are blessed with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur (when fit again), who do exactly that. Thomas Frank needs someone in the middle of the pitch who can pass a ball and dictate play. The former England international would cost next to nothing as he is surplus to requirements at Manchester City. It might just work.
Amos Murphy – Raheem Sterling
Having been let go by Chelsea earlier this month, Raheem Sterling is still without a club. Would Spurs be that bad a destination? Not only for Sterling, but for Tottenham too? He’d bring a touch of experience to the Tottenham ranks, which is much-needed, given how young their squad is.
