Spurs Romero transfer claim emerges after ‘disgraceful’ point made | Football | Sport

Cristian Romero is reportedly on the radar of several clubs for a potential summer transfer, just a day after the January transfer window closes. Monday marked the deadline for Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League teams, with any further squad changes now postponed until the summer.
Merely hours following the closure of the transfer window, Romero has emerged as a target for numerous clubs eyeing a possible summer deal.
Journalist Gaston Edul reports that Romero has attracting interest from La Liga, although he refrains from specifying which Spanish top-flight clubs are considering signing the Spurs defender.
The report also suggests that Romero will bid farewell to Spurs at the end of the season, hinting at interest during the January transfer window. However, it seems Spurs hold the upper hand in any forthcoming negotiations, given the centre-back signed a new four-year contract before the start of the season.
This news about Romero follows his expression of discontent regarding the club’s limited options after the transfer window closed, reports football.london.
“Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible,” wrote Romero in a post on Instagram.
“I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available – unbelievable but true and disgraceful.
“We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together.
“All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”
Romero’s comments have been made while Tottenham deal with a mounting injury crisis during the closing stages of the January transfer window.
The squad was severely depleted for last weekend’s draw against Manchester City, with James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Kevin Danso, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski all sidelined through injury.
Despite the challenges, Spurs remained active in the January market, sanctioning Brennan Johnson’s permanent departure to Crystal Palace.
In response, Tottenham secured Conor Gallagher’s signature from Atletico Madrid whilst also bringing in Souza from Brazilian club Santos.
Spurs also looked at signing Liverpool’s Andy Robertson, though negotiations for the Scotland international failed to progress, with the left-back ultimately staying put at Anfield instead of moving to north London.
