Regragui Departs from Morocco and Replacement Revealed

Moroccan sources revealed today, Thursday, that the Moroccan Football Federation has decided to appoint national coach Mohamed Wahbi as the head coach of the Moroccan national team. This decision comes to replace Walid Regragui, whose tenure with the “Lions” ends after a successful career filled with achievements, following his resignation.
This step comes just a few months before the start of the 2026 World Cup finals, as the federation aims to inject new blood into the national team’s coaching staff.
According to reports, Wahbi was chosen due to his exceptional successes with the youth category, the latest being the historic victory of the Under-20 World Cup in October 2025, making him the ideal choice to lead the senior national team.
Sources stated that Walid Regragui, who led Morocco to the semi-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressed his desire to step down to pave the way for a new phase, affirming his pride in what he achieved with the team.
