Premier League club’s £90million stadium expansion plans get green light with capacity set to double

BOURNEMOUTH have received planning permission to begin their ambitious redevelopment of the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries last year announced £90million plans that would more than double their ground’s capacity – while also completely modernising its facilities.

The BCP Council, which serves Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, approved the club’s enabling works at a committee meeting this morning.

Upon receiving the news, Cherries owner Bill Foley told the club’s website: “This is an exciting and important moment for the club.

“Our proposed new stadium reflects not only our ambition on the pitch, but also our commitment to investing in the community.

“The project will deliver long-term benefits for supporters, local residents, and the wider region beyond the BCP area.”

These approved works will see Bournemouth make several infrastructure improvements – including a new broadcast area, updated turnstiles and cycle routes.

Work will now continue on delivering the club’s long-term goals for its home.

The Vitality Stadium currently holds a capacity of 11,307 fans – by far the smallest in the Premier League.

Bournemouth want to increase that number to 20,500 by the summer of 2028, with scope to further grow to 23,000.

This would see the Vitality overtake Brentford‘s 17,000-seater Gtech ground.

Bournemouth want to replace their temporary South Stand, while expanding the existing North and East stands.

And the Cherries will also look to add further seats by filling in the ground’s corners.

In addition to the modern stands, there will also be a new fan zone for supporters to enjoy in the South West corner of the ground.
