Mourinho Clings to Presumption of Innocence in Vinicius and Prestiani Case

The Portuguese coach José Mourinho reiterated his cautious stance on the issue between Vinicius Junior and his player Gianluca Prestiani, emphasizing his commitment to the principle of presumption of innocence.

This comes after the criticism he faced due to his previous comments, as he emphasized that he always adds the word “if” when discussing the accusations, indicating the need to wait for the outcomes of investigations before making judgments.

The Benfica coach explained in statements made on Sunday that he made the right decision by not participating in the press conference for the second leg of the Champions League playoff against Real Madrid. He also expressed his respect for the Spanish team’s coach, Álvaro Arbeloa, affirming that his relationship with him would not be affected by the current events.

At the same time, Mourinho did not close the door on taking a firm stance if the accusations of making racist remarks during the first leg are proven. He emphasized that his personal principles and the club’s values do not tolerate any transgressions of this kind, noting that things would be entirely different if guilt is established.

The Portuguese coach concluded his remarks by asserting that if his player is proven to be involved, his career under his leadership and with Benfica will end immediately, adding that he will not look at him the same way again. However, he emphasized that the case is still surrounded by many complexities, which necessitates patience until the full picture becomes clear.
