Mendy Represents a Complex Puzzle at Real Madrid

The newspaper explained that Mendy has suffered from a long series of injuries since his first appearance with the royal team. Despite renewing his contract in 2024 until 2027, physical problems have prevented him from participating regularly. Last season, he missed 22 matches due to four injuries, and this season he has missed 24 matches due to various injuries.
The Spanish newspaper ‘AS’ added that the last season in which Mendy was able to participate regularly was the 2023/2024 season, where he only missed seven matches and played an important role in achieving the Spanish League and Champions League double, prompting the club to renew his contract. Since then, the player has suffered a decline in his level, playing only 112 minutes this season across three matches.
The newspaper pointed out that Mendy might have the opportunity for his first start in the league this season against Celta Vigo, especially with Carreras absent due to suspension. However, the final decision is in Arbeloa’s hands, who has two options: to rely on Mendy or Fran García, as neither has fully participated this season, and neither has proven full confidence for the coach.
The newspaper confirmed that the situation with Mendy is complicated, especially with his contract nearing its end next summer, and it is unlikely that the player will renew his contract. This makes the club consider selling him to recoup some money, but that requires Mendy to start playing and proving his ability to attract interested clubs. He remains a puzzle that Real Madrid needs to solve before the summer, starting with Friday’s match against Celta Vigo.
