Man Utd confirm transfer move seconds before deadline closes | Football | Sport

Manchester United have confirmed that teenage forward James Scanlon has left the club on loan. United announced on deadline day that the 19-year-old has joined Swindon Town on loan for the second half of the season.
United had until 7pm (GMT) to complete their transfer business for the window, which also included allowing players to leave the club as well as bringing in new signings of their own.
It was confirmed at precisely 6.59pm by United that Scanlon had left Old Trafford to join Swindon on a temporary basis, where the forward will look to get valuable first-team experience while with the League One club, who are managed by Ian Holloway.
Scanlon is yet to make a first-team appearance for United in his young career, but has impressed with the club’s Under-21s this term.
Just last month, United’s Under-21s claimed a 3-2 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Premier League International Cup, where Scanlon scored a hat-trick to help the young Reds claim a vital win.
Scanlon’s exit is not expected to be the only piece of business that United completes on deadline day. Gabriele Biancheri is also set to join Rotherham United, while Jacob Devaney is close to joining St Mirren, both of which will be loan deals until the end of the season.
In terms of first-team business, United have been heavily linked with several potential new signings but have not gone into the market for reinforcements during this window.
Reports emerged claiming that United made an attempt to try and sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, but missed out on securing the young defender’s signature, with Liverpool poised to get a deal agreed for the summer.
Michael Carrick was appointed as United’s interim head coach last month following Ruben Amorim’s departure, and has won all three of his opening Premier League matches in charge against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham.
United will now have to wait until the summer to strengthen their squad once again, where speculation is expected to continue to swirl over the weeks and months ahead.
