Liverpool decide stance on Curtis Jones transfer as star ‘open’ to Inter move | Football | Sport

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones has emerged as a shock target for Inter Milan with the transfer deadline looming on Monday, though sources indicate the Reds are determined not to part with any senior squad members during this window. Arne Slot’s squad is already stretched thin in certain areas – particularly midfield – making it risky to entertain bids for senior players before the deadline passes.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Inter are keen on securing Jones initially on loan, with the possibility of making the arrangement permanent next summer. The journalist claims discussions have taken place regarding the 25-year-old. Nevertheless, Jones has been integral to Slot’s plans since the Dutchman’s arrival. After missing midweek training due to illness, he returned yesterday and may feature in the squad for tonight’s clash with Newcastle United.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio suggests Jones would be open to the move. Any departure, though, would require Liverpool’s approval.

This season, Jones has featured 10 times as a starter in the Premier League for Liverpool. He has also come off the bench on 10 occasions, whilst making six appearances in the Champions League.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Arne Slot indicated he expected a quiet conclusion to the transfer window for Liverpool.

“I think you know the answer: the answer is if we think we’ve addressed a player that can help us and we think it’s possible, then we would do so,” he said. “But those are conversations that take place not far away from here, by the way, but not in this room.”

“I think I showed last season that one of the things I like is consistency and playing as much as I can with the same players. That is what I’ve done at all my clubs every single time, which I’ve shown to England last season.

“Unfortunately, for all the obvious reasons which I’m not going to go into again because people get so bored if I do this every time, I haven’t been able to play many times with the same line-up.

“Even within games, I have to – sometimes have to, sometimes think I need to – make so many substitutions. So, that’s far from ideal, I can tell you that, but we accept the situation as it is and we make the best out of it.”
