Karim Benzema is on the verge of swapping Saudi Pro League clubs in a move that has reportedly enraged Cristiano Ronaldo. The former France international moved to Al-Ittihad from Real Madrid in 2023 and he scored 54 goals in 83 games, winning the title and cup last season. Benzema, however, failed to reach an agreement with Al-Ittihad chiefs and there were substantial disagreements over perceived broken promises.
With a complete breakdown in relationships, Benzema will now leave Al-Ittihad to join their rivals Al-Hilal. It’s understood that the 38-year-old has agreed an 18-month contract with Simeone Inzaghi’s side and will join Kader Meïté, Marcos Leonardo and Darwin Núñez as the former Inter Milan manager’s striker options. There’s a fascinating element to the deal as it’s been widely reported that Ronaldo is fuming that Benzema has been allowed to join Al-Ittihad. It’s claimed that the Portugal captain angrily refused to play for Al-Nassr as he believes Benzema’s move is unfair as it makes Al-Hilal’s squad too strong – you can read more about this here.
