Joan Laporta, the former president of Barcelona, officially submitted his resignation today, Monday, to prepare for the club’s upcoming elections scheduled for March 15, 2026. Laporta spoke to reporters following the board meeting, expressing pride in what has been accomplished during his current term and expressing hope to lead the club for an additional five years.

Laporta said: “I leave eager to see you again, the fans are happy, we have restored joy, I leave the club better than it was five years ago, we had to make tough decisions, and looking at what has been achieved, we feel proud.”

Regarding his ambition to return to the club’s presidency, Laporta stated: “The players are the creators of the successes over the past five years, we have won many titles, some of which we have not yet achieved, but we leave that for the coming years if the members vote for us.”

He added: “The development work at Spotify Camp Nou is a personal source of pride for me, and it is the largest legacy project in the club’s history.”

Laporta affirmed his confidence that the members will appreciate these renovations and all the achievements of the board during his term, enhancing his chances of returning to manage the club for another five years.
