England Nations League draw live as Thomas Tuchel faces group of death | Football | Sport

England are set to discover their opponents for the 2026/27 Nations League campaign on Thursday.

Roberto Martinez’s Portugal are the defending champions, having beaten Spain in last year’s final in Munich. France and Germany completed the four teams that competed in the 2025 finals.

The Three Lions, meanwhile, won promotion back to League A, with Lee Carlsey guiding them to the top of their League B group that contained Greece, Republic of Ireland and Finland.

First introduced in 2018, the Nations League, which occurs every two years, is spread into four leagues and 14 different groups with teams vying for promotion and relegation.

The table-toppers from the four League A groups head into the finals and compete for the trophy the following year.  Performances in the Nations League can also impact and help countries compete at the European Championships and World Cup, though they cannot gain automatic qualification from the tournament itself.
