Despite His Absence from the List, Gavi Accompanies Barcelona’s Delegation to Bilbao and Newcastle
The Spanish newspaper ‘Sport’ mentioned that the absence of Gavi’s name from the list of 22 players traveling to Bilbao raised some questions, especially since the team will spend the night in the Basque capital after the match, before traveling directly to Newcastle on Sunday in preparation for Tuesday’s Champions League match.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Gavi will join the team’s delegation later this evening. The midfielder did not travel this afternoon with the rest of the players but will join the team after a few hours, having continued working in the Joan Gamper Sports City facilities in the morning to complete his physical readiness after recently returning to training with the group.
The report indicated that Barcelona’s technical staff preferred Gavi to continue his training routine in the morning, especially since he will not participate in the Bilbao match, so it was decided that he would join the delegation later without changing his preparation program.
The newspaper also clarified that the technical staff’s idea is for the player to experience the team’s atmosphere in the coming period, which is why he will travel with Barcelona’s delegation to Newcastle, where the team will stay for three days, so Gavi feels part of the group and regains the match atmosphere, despite not participating on the field.
Gavi will arrive in Bilbao this evening without yet obtaining full medical clearance to participate in matches, more than six months after his last appearance in a Barcelona shirt, which was during a match against Levante, when he played the entire second half.
The newspaper added that the midfielder underwent conservative treatment a month after that match, which did not yield the desired results, before later undergoing arthroscopic surgery on the inner cartilage of his right knee.
The same source confirmed that Gavi’s return to the camp atmosphere with the team, even without joining the match list, is considered positive news within the Catalan club, both for the player himself and for coach Hans Flick, who has a great deal of appreciation and trust in the player.
Gavi is considered one of the players with a strong presence in the locker room, due to his competitive personality and high fighting spirit, making him a beloved figure among his teammates and Barcelona fans, who eagerly await his return to the field as soon as possible.
