Deco Focuses on Renewing Contract of Barcelona Forward

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, aims to ensure the long-term retention of key players within the team, especially following the arrival of coach Hans Flick, who has reassessed the team’s strength. Deco’s efforts have included renewing the contracts of players such as Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Pau Cubarsi, in addition to Fermín López, whose contract was officially renewed on Friday, to enhance the stability of the European team.

The issue of Ferran Torres remains the biggest matter that Deco must address in the coming period, as the Spanish forward’s contract expires on June 30, 2027. Necessary actions must be taken before he reaches the final year of his contract. Club president Joan Laporta has stated several times that he does not wish to repeat such situations.

Coach Hans Flick confirmed his support for the renewal plan with Torres in a press conference, saying: “This is the club’s decision, but I am happy with all the players. Deco is doing a great job keeping the players for the future and will continue to do so.” This stance highlights Torres’s importance in the team’s plans, especially after his outstanding performance last season, scoring decisive goals in all competitions, surpassing Lewandowski in some matches.

This season shows that Torres excels in participating with the team, having accumulated more than 300 minutes compared to the Polish player, clearly indicating a generational shift in the number 9 striker position at Barca.

Regardless of any new signings for forwards next summer, Deco’s goal remains to offer a contract and role that aligns with Ferran Torres’s level, considering that the player has multiple offers. Although his dream is to stay at Barcelona, agreeing on specific terms before 2027 will be necessary for the continuity of the relationship between both parties.
