Arne Slot confirmed he blocked a move for Curtis Jones to Inter Milan, explaining, “I think what you’ve seen… he has played a lot of minutes… we kept [him] because we have players but we need players in these positions.”
-
The manager dismissed “outside noise” regarding the squad, stating that Liverpool were “trying to strengthen the squad and not trying to weaken it” by sanctioning the exit of senior players like Jones or Andy Robertson.
-
Regarding the failed loan deal for Jones, reports claim that Inter Milan refused to release Davide Frattesi to Nottingham Forest once Liverpool pulled the plug, as the Italian club viewed Jones as their essential midfield replacement.
-
Addressing Robertson, who had been linked with Tottenham, Slot insisted he couldn’t afford a departure, saying: “I think I need all of my players… the last thing we need right now is another injury.”
-
Slot praised the Anfield crowd for drowning out transfer speculation, noting: “Our fans showed today what noise really means, that is being loud… that is what noise here is in Liverpool.”
-
While blocking exits, the Reds remained in incoming talks, having agreed a £60m deal for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet and explored a move for Lutsharel Geertruida to address a defensive injury crisis, though they failed to bring in a defender.
-
The Dutchman remains focused on maintaining their scoring record, highlighting that after netting 10 goals in two games, “improving in both boxes” is the key to doing “very special things this season.”
