Cristian Romero ‘to leave’ Tottenham after blasting club’s board | Football | Sport

Cristian Romero will leave Tottenham in the summer, according to blockbuster reports that have emerged just a day after the January transfer window slammed shut. Monday marked deadline day for Spurs and the remainder of the Premier League, with clubs now forced to wait until the summer if they wish to alter their squads. Just hours following the transfer window’s closure, Romero is now being touted as a player catching the eye of several clubs ahead of a possible summer exit.

TyC Sports have reported that Romero is drawing attention from La Liga. It is unclear, however, exactly which Spanish top-flight clubs are considering a move for the Tottenham centre-back. The report also suggests that Romero will depart Spurs at the end of the season, with claims that there was also interest during the January window. Nevertheless, Spurs appear to hold all the aces should any negotiations occur, given the defender penned a fresh four-year deal before the campaign began.

The update regarding Romero emerges a day after the Tottenham star voiced his frustrations concerning the club’s limited options following the transfer window’s closure. The South American appeared to point the finger at the club’s board for their problems, with injuries having ravaged the squad.

“Great effort from all my team-mates yesterday, they were incredible,” Romero wrote in a post on Instagram. “I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available – unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

“We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”

Tottenham are grappling with numerous injury worries. James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Kevin Danso, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski all sat out Tottenham’s stalemate with Manchester City last weekend through injury.

Spurs nevertheless maintained an active January transfer window, including approving Brennan Johnson’s permanent departure to Crystal Palace. Tottenham reacted by securing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid whilst Souza completed his arrival from Santos in Brazil.

Spurs also pursued Andy Robertson from Liverpool, but negotiations for the left-back failed to advance and he ultimately stayed at Anfield instead of relocating to north London.
