Barcelona Requests to Host the 2029 UEFA Champions League Final

FC Barcelona has officially submitted its bid to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium, with support from the Catalan government and the Barcelona municipality, according to the Spanish newspaper “Sport.”

The club clarified that the process began with preparing the necessary documents to be submitted to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in the coming months, with the aim of having the stadium among the candidates to host the final. Barcelona stated in its announcement: “FC Barcelona officially expresses its desire to participate, in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, in the initial phase of the candidacy to host the UEFA Champions League final in 2029, proposing the city of Barcelona as a potential venue for the event and Spotify Camp Nou as the proposed stadium, subject to accreditation and approval by UEFA, with the support of the Spanish Football Federation as hosts and participants in the organization.”

This step is part of an initial phase of analysis and evaluation, where the club and relevant institutions have submitted preliminary documents to allow UEFA to assess the feasibility of the candidacy according to the established protocols, with the final candidacy and complete file to be submitted in early June 2026.

Barcelona and the city of Barcelona also aspire to host the 2030 World Cup final, competing with Madrid and Casablanca in the tournament co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

The Spotify Camp Nou stadium is currently undergoing a reconstruction phase, and the work is expected to be completed before the final date, making it one of the most modern stadiums with a capacity exceeding 105,000 spectators, making it an ideal choice for hosting major sporting events.
