Barcelona Concludes the Winter Transfer Market Quietly

Barcelona concluded this season’s winter transfer market relatively quietly, with only three major moves recorded, according to the Spanish newspaper “Sport.”

During the contractual period, João Cancelo arrived on loan from Al Hilal Saudi to strengthen the defense following the long-term injury of defender Andreas Christensen, while goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen left for Girona, and Drew moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish newspaper highlighted that Drew’s departure was the only surprise in the market, as the player was fully integrated with the team under Hans Flick’s leadership. Meanwhile, Cancelo’s return was to meet the team’s defensive needs and provide tactical flexibility in the full-back and center-back positions, having so far participated for limited minutes on the left side.

Sport also confirmed that the successful renewal of Fermín López’s contract until 2031 reflects the ongoing commitment to academy players as the backbone of the team in the coming years, after he scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 27 matches this season.
