Atletico Madrid Focuses on Work, Not Rankings, Before Facing Tottenham

Atletico Madrid’s coach, Argentine Diego Simeone, affirmed that his team might not be considered the top contender to qualify before facing Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. He emphasized that rankings, in any case, do not determine the reality of matches on the field.

Simeone explained that his team is focused on working and concentrating on each match individually, away from calculations or previous team rankings, expressing his confidence in his players and their ability to deliver the best performance. Despite Tottenham finishing the league stage in fourth place, he sees his team as not among the favorites to qualify.

The Argentine coach also spoke about the importance of managing players’ fatigue and giving them time to rest and relax with their families, noting that this enhances their focus and enables them to deliver their best performance in important matches.

Regarding the English teams, Simeone emphasized that the English Premier League has a faster pace of play and a higher level of fitness and technical skill compared to other European leagues. He stressed his great respect for Tottenham as players and as opponents, noting that football always reveals its true nature on the field, regardless of rankings or previous standings.

Simeone concluded his remarks by saying that success in European tournaments depends on technical quality, collective discipline, hard work, and focus in every match, emphasizing that his team is ready to face Tottenham with seriousness and determination to achieve the best results.
