Arsenal vs. Chelsea live score: Premier League result, updates, stats from London derby

JUMP TO:

After returning to winning ways with an emphatic North London derby victory last weekend, Arsenal hope to pass the next test in their quest for a Premier League title as they host Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners hold a two-point advantage over Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side having edged out Leeds by a 1-0 score the day before.

Liam Rosenior ushers Chelsea into this match on the heels of two straight draws against Leeds and Burnley, a pair of adverse results which has dropped the Blues to sixth in a bitter fight for the final Champions League places. They are three points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool, with Man United in fourth also at that same points threshold.

The Sporting News is following the Arsenal vs. Chelsea match live, providing score updates, commentary, and analysis.

Arsenal vs. Chelsea live updates, highlights from Premier League match

10th min: A Chelsea free-kick floated to the near post for Mamadou Sarr presents a decent opportunity for the Blues, but the defender swings wildly and poorly at it, and ends up cutting it well out of play. Not a good attempt at that quality half-chance.

6th min: YIKES, Robert Sanchez what are you doing??? He nearly gifts Arsenal an early goal while being caught in possession, but manages to barely recover the situation and clear the ball after he was nearly mugged by Viktor Gyokeres!

5th min: Cole Palmer is playing on the wing, out wide on the left, which is rare for him, but not completely out of nowhere. He’s done this back at the Club World Cup where Chelsea emerged victorious.

Kickoff: They’re under way at the Emirates! A London derby with massive title and Champions League implications!

Thierry Henry is in attendance today!

Arsenal vs. Chelsea: Pre-match commentary, analysis, more

15 mins to kickoff: Bukayo Saka has not scored against Chelsea in Premier League play since April 2022. Arsenal need their star winger to help push them on to the Premier League title, as he has not enjoyed a superstar season thus far. Can he springboard himself and the club towards a great achievement today?

Kickoff is just around the corner!

30 mins to kickoff: The pressure is on Arsenal in the title race as it has been for many months now. With Man City two points back ahead of kickoff, there is no room for error. Any dropped points would allow City to at least draw level, if not take over the lead. There can be no slips for the Gunners the rest of the way, and that will be a challenge given there are still 10 matches to go in the season.

45 mins to kickoff: Cole Palmer has had a very muted career against Arsenal in his career, especially in Premier League play. He has often missed his club’s games against the Gunners, absent from one game in the 2023/24 season, once in 2024/25, and on the bench as an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw earlier this season.

He has one goal in his two league appearances against the Gunners, and another in their Community Shield meeting with Man City back in 2023. Can he make a difference today and spring the Blues into a Champions League place?

1 hour to kickoff: The absence of Martin Odegaard is a big miss for Arsenal, as the Norwegian has tried to work back from injury. Eberechi Eze was the North London derby hero with his brace, but he has not scored against anyone other than Tottenham in Premier League play since late October. Can he play a big role in the title chase today?

1 hour 15 mins to kick: Lineups are in! For Arsenal, the only interesting quirk is that Eberechi Eze retains his place in midfield with Martin Odegaard surprisingly not in the squad. Kai Havertz is in the Arsenal squad on the bench.

For Chelsea, Malo Gusto does not make the starting XI, with Reece James at right-back along a back-four. Pedro Neto is retained on the wing, with Estevao still not in the squad.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has made headlines ahead of this match as he told a panel conference about when he first bought the London club.

Boehly said that because the entire executive structure was overhauled early in his time at the club, he was forced to make football decisions with little knowledge of the sport.

“Having taken over in the circumstances that we did, basically the whole management team left,” Boehly said. “I was stuck being interim Sporting Director for a summer, having no idea what made a good football player. But knowing that Marc Cucurella, if Man City wanted him, I want him. It was really simple that way.”

The common joke at the time amongst rival fans was that Boehly was just piggybacking on the rumours of other clubs, and it turns out there was more truth to that than was even known at the time!

2 hours to kickoff: Arsenal fans are finally feeling some positivity once again in the title race after defeating Tottenham 4-1 in the latest edition of the North London derby.

Yet according to the computers, they have maintained a healthy advantage over Man City in the title race this entire time. Opta’s predictive model gives Arsenal nearly a 4-in-5 chance to emerge at the top of the table this season, with a 78.6% chance to win the title. That’s a significant gap over Man City’s 21.2% chance!

Arsenal vs. Chelsea lineups, team news

The Arsenal injury list has thinned in recent weeks, with most of Mikel Arteta’s key players returning to health. Only Mikel Merino remains on the shelf for the long-term, as his broken foot is expected to keep him out for most of the season.

However, there was a surprise absence for Arsenal today as Martin Odegaard did not appear in the matchday squad, with Eberechi Eze remaining in the starting XI.

There was a chance that Kai Havertz could return from his latest injury today, and that comes to pass as he makes the bench hoping to put an injury-stricken season behind him. Max Dowman, who has been shelved for the last three months with an ankle issue, still does not appear.

Arsenal starting lineup (4-3-3): Raya (GK) — Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie — Eze, Zubimendi, Rice — Saka, Gyokeres, Trossard.

Arsenal subs: Kepa (GK), Mosquera, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly, Norgaard, Havertz, Madueke, Martinelli, Jesus.

It’s believed that Marc Cucurella will not be participating in this match as he recovers from a  hamstring injury back in mid-February, although he could return as soon as the midweek game against Aston Villa.

Also vying for a return soon is young winger Estevao, who was impressing before suffering a hamstring injury of his own. He is likely to return soon, although it’s not clear whether today’s match comes just a moment too soon. Other Chelsea players likely out for this match include Jamie GittensDario Essugo, and Levi Colwill.

Filip Jorgensen returns from injury to make the bench as the backup goalkeeper behind Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea starting lineup (3-4-3): Sanchez (GK) — James, Sarr, Chalobah, Hato — Caicedo, Santos — Palmer, E. Fernandez, Neto — Pedro.

Chelsea subs: Jorgensen (GK), Acheampong, Aarabioyo, Badiashile, Gusto, Lavia, Garnacho, Delap, Guiu.
