Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has said that the decision was taken to safeguard Nwaneri. However, French publication L’Equipe claims a decline in squad morale at Marseille has taken place in recent months.
It’s suggested that the players are disgruntled with their stringent working conditions and puzzled by some of De Zerbi’s decisions. These revelations to the French press imply that Nwaneri may have joined the club at an unfortunate time.
RMC Sport add that De Zerbi is reflecting on his own role. Meanwhile, Nwaneri will be concentrating on learning from his experiences at his parent club as he strives to make his mark away from Arsenal.
Arsenal transfer talks scheduled
Fabio Vieira, another Arsenal loanee, is expected to be the focus of discussions about his future. The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Hamburg and has been a standout performer for the newly-promoted Bundesliga team, scoring twice and setting up four goals in 15 appearances.
Vieira will have one year remaining on his Arsenal contract at the end of the season, having spent the last two seasons on loan following a previous stint with Porto. His loan deal to Hamburg included a buy option estimated at around £17million.
Despite the clause being agreed upon, German publication Bild reports that the German club plans to renegotiate the fee during discussions with the other club later this year. These talks are set for April or May, when a decision on a permanent transfer could be reached.
It’s suggested that Hamburg might struggle to meet the buyout clause, especially as they’re only five points clear of the relegation zone. However, the prospect of altering the fee during the transfer negotiations hasn’t been dismissed.
