The winter transfer window has now closed for the vast majority of the biggest leagues, which means squads are finalised until the end of the season. Over €2 billion was spent by clubs across the world during the winter market, despite it appearing a relatively quiet window. Antoine Semenyo’s €72 million move from Bournemouth to Manchester City was the biggest deal but no club spent more than €100m.
Pretty much all of the biggest clubs in the world decided against making a single signing and that was because they’d completed their business in the summer window – Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid didn’t spend a penny. With the summer and winter transfer windows completed for the 2025/26 season, we can now assess which clubs had the highest net spend across this campaign.
Which clubs had the highest net spend across the 2025/26 season?
Arsenal have the highest net spend this season at €280m with Mikel Arteta backed heavily again to finally deliver silverware. The Gunners are on track for a famous season and they spent €295.6m on new arrivals, while recouping just €14.3m through sales. Liverpool rank second after breaking the record for the most money spent in a single window in the summer. The Anfield club broke the British transfer record twice to sign Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak with their summer spend totalling €482.9m.
Only three clubs had higher sales than Liverpool this season (€219.5m) and their net spend stands at €263.4m. Unsurprisingly, Premier League clubs dominate this list given the financial disparity between the English top-flight and other leagues and Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United complete the top five. Real Madrid rank sixth (€165m) narrowly ahead of Sunderland, who were backed heavily after their promotion from the English Championship. Galatasaray rank ninth but figures could change for Süper Lig clubs with their transfer window closing on Friday – all Transfermarkt figures in this list are accurate as of Wednesday, February 4th.
