Araujo’s Remarks on Alvarez Anger Atletico Madrid

The interview conducted by Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo with the newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ sparked strong reactions in Madrid, specifically within Atletico Madrid, as some of his statements referred to Argentine striker Julian Alvarez before the two teams face off in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Araujo said: ‘For me, Julian is a great player, one of the best strikers in the world, and the best players should be in the best club, which is us.’

These statements caused significant discontent within Atletico’s locker room and the Spanish capital club, especially since Alvarez is going through a difficult period both professionally and personally, having not scored any goals in the league since last November, and his teammates are working to support and encourage him to return to his well-known form.

The club believes that Araujo’s remarks, although not intended to offend, undermine Atletico’s value and put Alvarez in the spotlight just before the match, particularly with ongoing rumors about Barcelona’s interest in the Argentine international player for several months. These words are now seen as potentially providing additional motivation for Atletico ahead of today’s match at the Metropolitano.
