Alvarez Continues to Flirt with Barcelona Amid English Interest

The name Julian Alvarez has once again taken center stage in the summer transfer market, amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future with Atletico Madrid and the growing interest from English clubs in acquiring his services, while he continues to show positive signals towards Barcelona.

According to the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” the Argentine striker does not feel completely comfortable at Atlético Madrid and may consider leaving next summer, despite the Madrid club’s assertion that he is not currently for sale. The newspaper noted that Álvarez once again expressed his admiration for Barcelona when he described Pedri as one of the best players in the world.

The newspaper clarified that Álvarez did not start in the last match against Levante and is going through a less than ideal period despite scoring 11 goals and providing five assists this season. This comes amid Diego Simeone’s team suffering from a lack of technical stability, which has caused the player to feel frustrated on more than one occasion.

The newspaper added that despite the player being under contract until 2030 and his transfer from Manchester City for 75 million euros, Atlético Madrid might internally consider offers starting from 100 million euros, a figure that Barcelona does not currently seem prepared to approach.

The same source confirmed that English clubs, led by Arsenal and Chelsea, have shown their readiness to make substantial financial offers to sign Alvarez. However, the player does not prefer to return to the English Premier League at the moment, and he considers Barcelona as his first option, fully aware of the financial difficulties that the Catalan club might face in completing a deal of this magnitude.

The report indicated that Barcelona’s management appreciates the talent of Julian Alvarez, but they are considering several scenarios before taking action, most notably resolving the future of Robert Lewandowski. His potential departure could create more room in the salary cap, while the club retains alternative options in case negotiations falter or the financial demands increase due to English competition.
