Alonso Refuses to Coach Marseille

The reliable journalist Fabrice Hawkins revealed that Olympique Marseille club has contacted the Spanish coach Xabi Alonso to take over the team’s technical leadership in the coming period. However, the latter did not show any interest in the offer.

According to the same source, Alonso rejected the idea of coaching Marseille given the complex conditions the French club is going through, both administratively and athletically, preferring not to embark on the experience at this sensitive time.

Marseille had recently announced the dismissal of its Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi due to declining results, at a time when the administration witnessed a state of turmoil after the sporting director Mehdi Benatia submitted a resignation request, which the club’s management refused, pressuring him to remain in his position until the end of the season.

The Basque coach had left Real Madrid a few weeks ago, amid interest from several clubs in signing him.
