African Defender Closes the Door on Al-Ittihad

The Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba, a player for the French club Lille, rejected a substantial financial offer from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation during the current winter transfer window, preferring to continue playing in European leagues.

The French newspaper “L’Équipe” revealed that Al-Ittihad Club sought to sign Mbemba with a contract lasting only six months, offering a substantial financial deal, with the aim of registering him to participate in the elite Asian Champions League.

The newspaper clarified that the management of the club made an official offer to Lille to purchase the remaining duration of the Congolese player’s contract, which ends at the end of the current season.

Reports indicated that Mbemba rejected the offer because his potential participation with the club was limited to the AFC Champions League for the elite, without appearing in other competitions.

The Congolese defender believes that this scenario does not serve his ambitions, as he aims to play regularly to secure his place with his national team in the playoff for the upcoming World Cup qualification.

Chancel Mbemba joined the ranks of French club Lille last summer, coming from Olympique Marseille, with a contract extending for one season.

Mbemba played 14 matches for Lille in the current football season and succeeded in assisting a goal, continuing his technical presence with the French team.
