A Single Condition Separates Marseille from Conceição

The French club Marseille has listed the Portuguese coach Sergio Conceição, the head coach of the Saudi club Al-Ittihad, as one of the top candidates for the managerial position following the dismissal of Roberto De Zerbi after a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Press reports revealed that the Marseille management is considering moving towards Conceição, but they face the obstacle of his existing contract with the club, which complicates negotiations if a formal step is taken.

Sérgio Conceição is under contract with Al-Ittihad Saudi Club, which includes a release clause valued at 4.5 million euros. This amount represents the main obstacle to completing the potential deal.

The sources clarified that Marseille officials have not yet opened formal negotiations with the federation or the coach, despite their great admiration for his capabilities and coaching experience.

Conceição took over as coach of Al-Ittihad last October, with a contract extending until June 30, 2028, as part of a long-term project to bring the team back to the championship podiums.

The Portuguese coach led 23 matches with Al-Ittihad, achieving 13 victories, 6 defeats, and 4 draws, affirming his strong technical presence since taking on the role.
