Man Utd U-turn on transfer hours before deadline to leave player fuming | Football | Sport

Tyrell Malacia is believed to be furious with Manchester United after Jason Wilcox prevented a deadline-day departure from Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has been left out in the cold by the Red Devils this season, managing just one Premier League outing in 2025/26.

Consequently, rumours have been swirling this month that the left-back might depart during the winter transfer window. Whilst Malacia was reportedly preparing to travel to Turkey on Monday for a medical examination, The Sun claim he received a phone call from Wilcox moments before his flight, informing him that he would be staying at his current club. It’s now said that Malacia is frustrated with both Wilcox and United, having anticipated securing more regular game time elsewhere.

Despite these reports, Express Sport understands no agreement or travel arrangements were finalised between the player and any club in recent weeks. The Dutch defender might also feature in Michael Carrick’s plans for the remainder of the campaign, as United’s position on utilising him may have shifted following Patrick Dorgu’s recent injury setback.

Dorgu sustained his problem during United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal last month, with reports indicating he could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks. Whilst Carrick was recently unable to provide a timeframe for Dorgu’s return, the interim head coach has acknowledged that he faces a period on the sidelines.

He revealed during a press conference: “Pat, unfortunately, is going to be out for a period of time. We are still working through how long that is going to be.”

Keeping Malacia could prove challenging in the coming months, considering his existing agreement with the club expires this summer. Consequently, he will be free to depart without a transfer fee should relations remain strained.

This development follows Malacia’s inclusion in a five-player ‘bomb-squad’ under Ruben Amorim before his dismissal in January, along with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
