Spalletti: We Don’t Care About Statistics But Critical Moments, and Here’s Our Stance on Signing Icardi

Luciano Spalletti, Juventus coach, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after the big 4-1 victory over Parma, in the match held at Ennio Tardini Stadium, praising the players’ focus and explaining the reasons behind some tactical choices.

Spalletti said: “It’s better not to look at statistics, because they often come from fixed situations that do not affect the match result. Football relies more on sudden changes in rhythm, tackles, second balls, and whoever is more focused in those moments can win.”

He continued: “What really matters to me is building a relationship with a team that enjoys football, because this unleashes the quality we saw today. Players should never detach from the match, but always be ready for the next situation.”

He added: “Every match is a step for learning, and there is no decisive match finally, but it is a continuous process. I told them not to praise me, but to praise their teammates. This group has the potential to become a great team thanks to unity, enthusiasm, and determination.”

Regarding Kenan Yildiz: “He told us during the first half that he felt some pain but could continue until the end. Now he feels pain even while walking. We will evaluate his condition, but it doesn’t seem serious, and it’s difficult to prepare him for Thursday’s match.”

The Juventus coach settled the debate about Icardi’s name, saying: “I speak positively about him as a player when he was in my team, but there were issues related to his private life that had no place in the dressing room.”

He added: “At that time, I had to make the decision to exclude him. He is a good person and a great striker, but we do not want to sign Icardi.”

He concluded his statements by saying: “When I speak well of a player, the headlines turn to us wanting him, which is not true. We are looking for a player with specific qualities, and if we don’t find him, we will continue with what we have.”
