Michael Carrick’s remarkable winning run in charge of Manchester United continued in dramatic fashion at Old Trafford against Fulham. The former Red Devils ace has now won all three of his opening matches in charge of the 20-time champions, who move up into the Champions League qualification positions.
United didn’t start particularly fast, with Fulham having looked like the side most likely to take the lead. That was until midway through the first half, when Matheus Cunha thought he’d won a penalty after being hacked down by Jorge Cuenca. A VAR review concluded that the incident should instead be ruled as a free-kick, which was eventually whipped in by Bruno Fernandes for Casemiro to nod home.
A similar pattern of play continued after the restart, with Fulham knocking on the door in the early stages of the second half. But just like the opening 45 minutes, it was United who found the back of the net, as Casemiro turned provider for Cunha, who rifled home from a tight angle. Things would be flipped on their head when Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot to halve the deficit, before a stunning long-range effort from Kevin made it 2-2.
But this is a different United and where previously heads might’ve dropped, the hosts dug deep to once again carve out a chance. It came from a long-busting run from Bruno Fernandes, who picked out substitute Benjamin Sesko, with the striker swivelling on the spot to turn home the winner. Express Sport hands out player ratings from United’s clash with Fulham…

Senne Lammens – 7
Was called upon a couple of times in each half and made some sharp saves that could’ve given Fulham a route back into the game. He’s by no means perfect, but the Belgian’s signing has been a big improvement on what United had between the sticks previously.
A solid showing from the Portuguese international with no major flaws. Appeared to cut out most of the careless errors that caused frusration for the Old Trafford faithful in the recent Manchester Derby.
Steady Eddie at the back. Unfortunate to have conceded the penalty. Complements Lisandro Martinez so well, who also brings the best out of the England international. Speaking of which, could the ex-Leicester City man earn a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s team for the World Cup? Never say never.
It’s no surprise that United have looked much more defensively sound since the Argentine returned from injury. Reads the ga,e so well and looks at home in a traditional back four system.
Whisper it, but has the left-back become somewhat of a Mr Reliable for United? Typically plagued by injuries, the Englishman continued his run of playing in every Premier League match this season. Something that would’ve no doubt been unthinkable a couple of seasons ago.
Is he sure it’s time to leave? The anchorman has looked close to his very best since Carrick arrived at the club. A goal and an assist for the veteran midfielder, who has certainly started his United farewell tour on a high.
A reminder that sometimes, just sometimes, the average fan knows more than a Premier League boss. The young Englishman’s talent was clear to see, and it’s a travesty he didn’t start a single Premier League game this season under Ruben Amorim.

Was tracking to be a poor performance, but his never-say-die attitude created the chance for Sesko to sweep home the winner.
Picked up where he left off against Arsenal last weekend with an equally impressive finish. His instinctive nature is such a boost for United, who struggled in front of goal so much last season.
Almost scored with his first touch, but the header cannoned back off the post. Kept his composure when United needed it most to sweep home a stunning counterattack after Fulham equalised.
A step below what Casemiro offers, even if the Brazilian is nine years older.
