Alexander Isak’s response to Ekitike goals in Liverpool vs Newcastle | Football | Sport

Arne Slot’s side fell behind early when Anthony Gordon fired Newcastle ahead in the opening period in front of the Kop. However, Liverpool hit back through two rapid-fire strikes from Ekitike, who was given the nod by Slot for the encounter with Newcastle, having previously been linked with a switch to St James’ Park during the summer transfer window before ultimately joining Anfield.

The Swedish international was positioned behind the Liverpool dugout at Anfield to cheer on his colleagues, and was captured celebrating Ekitike’s opening goal in the 41st minute.

Moments later, Ekitike handed Liverpool a 2-1 advantage courtesy of a sweeping pass from Milos Kerkez, which the French international collected before slotting home beyond Newcastle shot-stopper Nick Pope.

Isak, who completed a £125million move to Liverpool, has yet to face Newcastle in his new colours, having been a Magpies player during the teams’ previous encounter back in August.

Meanwhile, Ekitike’s double against Newcastle takes his season’s tally to 15 goals across all competitions, including 10 in the Premier League. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was effusive in his praise for Ekitike, likening the No. 22’s style to that of Fernando Torres.

Speaking to TNT Sports about Ekitike’s second goal, Gerrard said: “This is all about Ekitike,” and “It’s Torres-like, he just gets it out of his feet.

“He reminds me of Torres this player, every time I watch him. He’s scoring similar types of goals where if you give him space in the channel, he’ll run it. He’s too quick, you can’t catch him and he is deadly.”
