Chelsea came from 2-0 down to beat West Ham thanks to an Enzo Fernandez stoppage-time winner. A dismal opening 45 minutes from the hosts at Stamford Bridge saw them two goals down at half-time and seemingly devoid of ideas. Jarrod Bowen’s cross ended up in the back of the net, with Robert Sanchez put off by the West Ham strikers’ attempt to connect with the ball, before the Spanish stopper was beaten by a thunderous effort from Crysensio Summerville on the edge of the box.
Two of Chelsea’s three half-time substitutes, Joao Pedro and Wesley Fofana, combined to get a goal back before the hour mark before the third sub, Marc Cucurella, nodded in from close range to equalise. Fernandez then stepped up to score an almighty winner. Here, Express Sport takes a look at how the Chelsea players fared…
Chelsea player ratings vs West Ham
Goalkeeper
Was little he could do about either goal but did not demonstrate confidence playing out from the back. Lost it at his back four for the second goal, with West Ham’s forwards running off the back of them.
Could not handle Summerville at all, who put in one of his better performances of the season up against the Frenchman. But did well to keep the ball alive and head it back across goal for his opposite full-back, Cucurella, to head home an equaliser.
The best of a bad bunch at the back, but it won’t be a performance that will live long in Trevoh Chalobah’s memory.
There was little surprise when Benoit Badiashile was one of three players taken off at half-time. That entire left-hand side was torn apart by relegation candidates.
Completely out of sorts against Bowen, who gave the Dutchman a ‘welcome to the Premier League’ 45 minutes of football. He could not get near the West Ham captain. Though there was little support from Alejandro Garnacho ahead of him. Taken off for Marc Cucurella.
Far below his usual high standards. Liam Rosenior was audibly frustrated and put his hand over his face just seconds into the second half when Moises Caicedo’s misplaced pass to Malo Gusto put the Blues into trouble again. Booked late on for his troubles after losing out to Summerville again.

Much better suited to the more advanced role he has been playing in Cole Palmer’s absence. Looked a bit lost early days but once again popped up in the edge of the box to do what he does best, rescue Chelsea with a fine goal.
Struggled centrally and then moved out to the right when Joao Pedro was introduced, and was much more lively. A few neat touches came as he grew into the match, but he needed to receive the ball closer to goal to provide more of an impact.
Given an opportunity with Pedro Neto rested and Estevao returning to Brazil for family reasons, but only lasted 26 minutes before an injury forced him off.
Rotated in as Pedro was given a rest, but barely made an impact on the game and was easily marshalled by West Ham’s centre-backs.
After 30 minutes, he was in double digits for the number of times he lost possession. Failed to track Aaron Wan-Bissaka the opposite way on numerous occasions. A dismal performance from a player with bags of talent.
A very quiet game and the ball never quite fell for him in attacking positions.
Chelsea’s top scorer made an immediate impact of the bench, rising high to meet Wesley Fofana’s floated ball to the back post.
Gambled in the box to score an equalising goal when the West Ham defenders were left static. A marked improvement on Hato and can expect to be restored to the starting lineup against Arsenal next.
Caught out twice within seconds of coming on the pitch. He first found himself on the wrong side of Taty Castellanos and had to pull the striker down. From the resulting free-kick, Bowen got in behind the defender and Wesley Fofana needed rescuing by his goalkeeper. He did redeem himself, however, with a smart cross to Pedro to half the deficit.
The skipper got 10 minutes to help try and snatch a winner.
