What Courtois Did Deserves the Fair Play Award

Jose Mourinho, the coach of Benfica, commented on the moment when he witnessed Thibaut Courtois embracing and congratulating the Portuguese team’s goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin after the end of their match in the final stage of the Champions League group stage, which ended with Benfica winning 4-2.

Tropin scored Benfica’s fourth goal, which secured the Portuguese club a spot in the playoff qualifying for the round of 16.

Mourinho said in a press conference: “There is one thing I would like to say, something I didn’t notice at the end of the match, what Courtois did with Trubin was out of this world.”

He added, “I believe the Fair Play Award has already been given to Courtois, whether it’s the annual award presented by UEFA, FIFA, or others. Amid the sorrow of defeat, he found brief moments to be happy for his teammate who made an exceptional gesture.”

Mourinho continued: “Courtois’ reaction is what makes us love football. In that brief moment, while we were thinking to ourselves as if isolated from the world, I didn’t notice it at the time, but it didn’t surprise me at all.”

He concluded by saying, “Courtois was a former player of mine, I know him well, and he is the best goalkeeper in the world. He demonstrated great value with this behavior.”
