Fenerbahce are advancing in negotiations to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in one of the biggest transfers of the January window. Both clubs have held meetings and an agreement is close in a deal that could be worth €40 million, according to Fabrizio Romano. It’s understood that Atalanta are holding out for an initial fee of €35m, plus an additional €5m in add-ons.

Fenerbahce sporting director Devin Özek has travelled to Italy to conclude negotiations and there’s an expectation that an agreement will be reached before the transfer window closes. Atlético Madrid, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have all enquired about Lookman this month but he’s now expected to join Fener. It represents a huge statement of intent from the Turkish giants as it would be the 5th most expensive deal of the window.

Ademola Lookman: Fenerbahce closing in on Nigerian international

Lookman wanted to leave Atalanta in the summer and refused to play after accusing the club over ‘broken promises’. Inter Milan had several bids rejected for the Nigerian international and he issued a public statement to express his unhappiness. After several indifferent spells at Premier League clubs, Lookman has excelled at Atalanta and won the African player of the year in 2024. If the deal is completed, Lookman will become Fener’s record signing, eclipsing Mattéo Guendouzi’s €28m arrival earlier this season.
