Douglas Luiz has returned to Aston Villa on loan from Juventus. The Brazilian returns to the club after Aston Villa sold Douglas Luiz for €51.5 million to Juventus in 2024. “There are five days to finish the window,” Aston Villa manager Unai Emery said to BirminghamLive ahead of the club announcing the deal. “[Douglas] Luiz is a player joining us because of central midfield injuries.”

Aston Villa are currently without Ross Barkley and Boubacar Kamara. Furthermore, Harvey Elliott, who is on loan from Liverpool with an obligation to buy, has been left out in the cold by Emery. With that in mind, Aston Villa were looking to bring in additional depth as the club is currently pushing for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Whether Douglas Luiz can be more than just short-term help remains to be seen. The midfielder has struggled for playing time at Juventus since joining the club and was loaned out to Nottingham Forest earlier this season. There, Luiz managed just 710 minutes across 14 games in all competitions.
