Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes agreement could trigger Cole Palmer transfer | Football | Sport

It’s been reported by The Sun that Palmer would be open to joining his boyhood club because he misses his hometown of Wythenshawe. He regularly travels back to the area to visit friends and would supposedly welcome any interest from United in the summer. The report adds that he wouldn’t consider returning to City, with a move to Old Trafford the only attractive option.
The midfielder is thought to have a clause in his contract that would allow him to join a non-English club for £57million at the end of the season. This would enable a move to the Saudi Pro League, with several of their teams thought to be interested.
It would also open the door for United to make a sensational swoop for Palmer, given they would be able to put the £57m fee towards funding a move for his signature.
There would be a glaring hole in their midfield without Fernandes at the club, but Chelsea’s prized asset would be the ideal replacement with few players better equipped to fill that role.
United director of football Jason Wilcox was the head of City’s academy when Palmer was coming through and expressed a belief that he could go on to win the Ballon d’Or.
Wilcox will play a central role in determining United’s transfer plan this summer, alongside former City chief operating officer Omar Berrada and recruitment director Christopher Vivell.
It’s not clear how much the Blues would be looking for in terms of a transfer fee for Palmer, but it’s unlikely they would accept anything less than nine figures.
“I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very, very happy to be here, he is very, very happy to be here,” said the Chelsea boss.
“He’s a huge part of our plans in the long term. He’s an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult moments in their careers in terms of injury. I don’t think it’s any reflection on his qualities. He’s an outstanding footballer.”
