Deadly Armed Attack Claims 11 Lives at Football Field in Mexico

At least 11 people were killed and 12 others injured, including a woman and a child, in an armed attack targeting a football field in the city of Salamanca, Guanajuato state, central Mexico, according to local authorities.

The attack occurred on Sunday evening after a local match ended, when gunmen randomly fired at players and fans gathered inside the field, resulting in a large number of casualties at the scene, while one of the injured later died from his injuries in the hospital.

Police confirmed finding a large number of bullet casings at the attack site, while authorities have not yet announced the motives for the crime or any arrests.

The state of Guanajuato is one of the most affected areas in Mexico by violence linked to organized crime, witnessing ongoing conflicts between rival criminal gangs.

Authorities announced the opening of an extensive investigation into the incident, with enhanced security measures in the area to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
