Morgan Gibbs-White had the chance to hand the Premier League strugglers from the penalty spot only to see his effort saved.

The miss was then followed by a shocking own goal from captain Ryan Yates just 55 seconds later.

The midfielder could not sort his feet out as he bundled a low cross into his own net in the 54th minute.

Forest’s evening hit the final nail as Elliot Anderson was shown red by referee Igor Pajac in the closing stages.

The Manchester United target will miss the final game of the league phase as he was sent off for a comment towards the Croatian official.

Manager Dyche was left seething after the full-time whistle with the defeat leaving Forest set for a play-off game.

Speaking on TNT Sport, he said: “One minute of madness in a game that we never looked in trouble.

“We miss a penalty – that can happen. The reaction in the next minute or so… we lose the game to a poor goal.

“They get a lift and the crowd go mad, we knock off a bit, and an unfortunate situation for Yatesy. Very frustrated.”

To make matters worse for Forest – who were booed off by their travelling fans – Braga won without a shot on target.

It is only the second time in Europa League history that a team has managed the feat.

Dyche rotated his starting XI heavily against Braga from the team that held Arsenal to a goalless draw at the City Ground on Saturday.

The likes of Elliot Anderson, Neco Williams and Callum Hudson-Odoi were all dropped to the bench.

But their replacements were not up to scratch despite being geive the opportunity.

Dyche added: “There’s effort there but the cutting edge… we want more of that.

“We are in a weird situation where I have to protect certain players.

“We know the Premier League is massively important but we wanted to do well in this competition and we still do.

“It’s a fine line, it’s a juggling act. On one hand you want to protect some players and give everyone a chance.”
