Saudi Clubs Aim to Purchase Talents from the French League
Clubs like Monaco, Stade Rennais, Nantes, and Stade Reims have become prominent sources of these talents, given their need for funds and the readiness of Saudi clubs, in contrast, to pay large sums to bring in promising names.
French football is experiencing a severe financial crisis following a significant decline in television broadcasting rights revenues, with expected league revenues dropping to less than half of what was previously planned. With the withdrawal of some media partners, selling players has become one of the most important solutions to save club budgets.
In recent months, several young talents have moved to the Saudi league, including striker Georges Ilénikhina, who transferred from Monaco to Al-Ittihad for approximately 33 million euros, as well as young striker Mohamed Kader Mité, who moved from Rennes to Al-Hilal for around 30 million euros.
Many young players believe that moving to Saudi Arabia offers them the opportunity to play more frequently and earn higher salaries, with the possibility of returning to Europe later with more experience. Additionally, some players find an added appeal in moving to a Muslim country, which increases the interest of young French talents in this new destination in the transfer market.
