Flamengo Announces Dismissal of Filipe Luís

The Brazilian club Flamengo announced the dismissal of its young coach Filipe Luís from his position as head coach of the first football team, in a surprising decision that came just hours after a sweeping 8-0 victory over Madureira, and qualification to the final of the Carioca Championship.

The decision was made due to the team’s declining results in recent times, as the significant victory was not enough for the coach to retain his position, especially after what has been described as the team’s worst start in the past ten years.

The club explained in an official statement that the dismissal took effect starting Tuesday, and also included the departure of assistant coach Ivan Blanco and physical trainer Diogo Linares, with thanks extended to the technical staff for their contributions during the past period.

The pace of the decision accelerated following significant losses, most notably against Corinthians in the Brazilian Super Cup, and against Lanús in the Recopa Sudamericana final at the Maracanã Stadium.

Despite the dismissal, Filipe Luís leaves a clear mark after leading the team in 101 matches, achieving 63 wins, 23 draws, and 15 losses, and winning five major titles, placing him second in the list of the most decorated coaches in the club’s history.
