Flick’s Reasons for Believing in a Comeback Against Atletico Madrid

The Spanish newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ revealed the main reasons that motivate German coach Hans Flick to believe in Barcelona’s ability to achieve a comeback against Atletico Madrid, despite the difficulty of the task after losing the first leg 4-0.

According to the report, the task seems extremely complicated theoretically, but there are numerical and historical data that give the Catalan team hope of at least forcing extra time. The newspaper pointed out that since Flick took over as Barcelona’s coach, he has led the team in 100 matches, during which he managed to score at least four goals in 29 encounters, a number that reflects the team’s offensive capability under his leadership.

The report explained that among those 29 matches, there were 15 matches that ended with results that would give Barcelona the chance to reach extra time at the very least in a similar scenario, while seven matches were enough to secure direct qualification to the final, which strengthens the logic of believing in the possibility of a comeback.

The newspaper also noted that Barcelona had previously scored four goals against Villarreal, who have the same points as Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league ’51 points’, which reflects the team’s ability to achieve significant offensive results against competitors of the same level.

Despite Robert Lewandowski’s absence from the anticipated confrontation against Atletico Madrid, Flick trusts his available options, relying on a strong scoring record, whether with Barcelona or in his previous experiences. The German coach managed to score four goals twice against Atletico Madrid, the first when he was leading Bayern Munich and achieved a 4-0 victory in the Champions League group stage, and the second with Barcelona when they won 4-2 at the Metropolitano Stadium in the 28th round of the Spanish league last season.

The report also pointed out that during his leadership of Bayern Munich in 86 matches, his team scored at least four goals in 30 encounters, while the German national team under his leadership achieved this number in half of their 12 matches. In his first experience with Hoffenheim, his team scored four or more goals in 23 matches out of 196 encounters.

The report confirmed that Flick not only believes in the possibility of a comeback but also relies on clear numbers and data that give Barcelona real reasons to dream of achieving a comeback against Atletico Madrid.
