This Matter Was the Most Important, and Set Pieces Make a Big Difference

The coach said, “The most important thing is that we scored three goals from set pieces, and perhaps a fourth goal because Cody [Gakpo]’s goal came a bit late when we had a set piece opportunity. This can make a big difference in the match because I don’t think a 3-0 result fairly reflects the course of play.”
He added, “I have been on the losing side many times. We deserved much more than that, but we didn’t get it because of the set-pieces we conceded.”
Regarding avoiding slow starts: “In all the other matches, we also had many set pieces, but we struggled for a long time to score from them. However, we had opportunities, and we always knew things would return to normal. That’s what’s happening now. We are creating chances, and now they are being converted, and things look much better. In terms of open play, I don’t think it was our best match this season. It was a good game, but not the best. Set pieces make a big difference.”
He emphasized: “When they scored the third goal to make it 3-1, the situation wasn’t entirely comfortable. The players, the fans, and the coach, we all have experience this season with losing the lead, which usually doesn’t help in staying calm.”
Ten Hag: “In the end, we weren’t under significant threat, but the outcome is unpredictable. We’ve seen many times this season that even if we are controlling the game, we might still concede a goal.”
