Gordon: Barcelona is the Best Team I’ve Faced, and Their Ball Retention is a Lesson for Us

Anthony Gordon, the Newcastle United winger, spoke about the anticipated match against Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, praising the level the Catalan team displayed during the match held at St. James’ Park in the league stage.

Gordon is considered one of Newcastle United’s most prominent attacking weapons, having scored 10 goals in the current edition of the tournament, including four in the first leg of the playoffs against Qarabag, and he scored his team’s only goal in the league stage match against Barcelona, which ended with the Catalan team’s 2-1 victory thanks to Rashford’s brace.

Gordon said: “They have a very high level, we saw how Rashford scored two goals out of nothing, with a header and a second stunning goal, we are not used to playing against players who retain the ball in this way.”

He added: “We faced Chelsea and Manchester City before, but it was never like this, their way of retaining the ball was an educational experience for us.”

He concluded his statements by saying: “They were the best I’ve played against in this aspect, they are the best team I’ve faced so far.”

Gordon’s comments come several months after the first encounter this season between the two teams, as Newcastle eagerly awaits the return leg in the knockout stages, striving to deliver a different performance against Barcelona.
