Barcelona Considers Marmoush as an Alternative to Julian Alvarez to Strengthen the Attack

Barcelona continues its planning for the next season despite the presidential elections. The sports management, led by Deco, has agreed with coach Hans Flick on the necessity of signing a true striker, given the challenging market for strikers and their rising prices during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Spanish newspaper “Sport.”

Julian Alvarez, the Atletico Madrid forward, is Barcelona’s primary target, but the club’s management is aware of the complexity of the deal, especially since his current club is keen on retaining him and is demanding a fee that could reach 150 million euros. This is an amount Barcelona does not intend to approach unless the player explicitly requests to leave.

In light of these circumstances, the name of Egyptian international Omar Marmoush, a Manchester City forward, emerges as an alternative option admired within the corridors of the Catalan club. The management believes that Marmoush fits Flick’s style due to his technical abilities and movements in space, in addition to his flexibility in occupying various attacking positions.

Barcelona closely monitored the player during his impressive spell with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga before his move to Manchester City in January 2025 for 75 million euros, a decision made by coach Pep Guardiola. However, his limited appearances this season, given the presence of Erling Haaland, have opened the door to the possibility of his departure next summer.

According to “Sport” newspaper, Barcelona is closely monitoring Marmoush’s situation in anticipation of his potential entry into the transfer market, especially if the Julian Alvarez deal falls through. The management considers him a financially feasible option capable of providing the team with an offensive boost that aligns with the requirements of the upcoming phase.
