A severely depleted Tottenham side were simply outclassed by Arsenal in the North London derby to exacerbate fears of relegation. Make no mistake about it, Tottenham are firmly engulfed in a relegation battle and their current form should spark panic amongst even the most optimistic supporters. With just 11 Premier League games remaining, Spurs sit in 16th place, just four points off the relegation places and they are winless in their last nine league games.

Igor Tugor has been tasked with rectifying Tottenham’s slump after Thomas Frank’s disastrous tenure but club legend Jermain Defoe admits they can’t afford to delusional over their current plight. Asked if Spurs are in a relegation fight on ViaPlay, Defoe replied: “Of course. The games are running out and that’s the reality. So many key players are missing but there’s some long-term ones as well. That’s the worry but I don’t think they’ll go down. They play against Fulham and Crystal Palace, they’re capable of winning those two games.” Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League last season but their abysmal form should have alarm bells ringing in North London.

Tottenham: The worst Premier League side since matchday 19

Tottenham have been in freefall in 2026 and the statistics are terrifying for the Lily Whites’ fanbase. Since matchday 19 in the Premier League, when Tottenham drew 0-0 with Brentford on January 1st, Spurs have the lowest points tally in the division. The Europa League holders have picked up a measly four points from nine games; all from draws against Brenford, Sunderland, Burnley and Manchester City. Furthermore, no club has conceded more goals that Spurs (18) across these fixtures and they’ve only scored ten goals.

Tottenham’s exceptional abnormal injury crisis is unquestionably a mitigating factor but that isn’t expected to improve significantly over the coming weeks. The most concerning aspect of the form table, besides their own struggles, will be that Spurs’ main relegation rivals have shown signs of revival. Burnley and Wolves are realistically already consigned to relegation but West Ham – who currently occupy 18th place- have picked up eight more points than Spurs since matchday 19. Nottingham Forest sit between Spurs and West Ham in the Premier League table and they’ve also picked up five more points than Spurs. Tottenham face some tough remaining fixtures and their potential relegation would be a complete disaster and one of the biggest stories in English football for decades.
