The Truth About Negotiations Between Álvarez and Barcelona

The Spanish newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ revealed that the entourage of Argentine striker Julián Álvarez denied any recent contacts with FC Barcelona, contrary to what was reported in Argentine media about the player’s possible move to the Catalan team after the World Cup.

According to the newspaper, Barcelona is looking for a striker as part of the 2025/2026 season project, and the 26-year-old Álvarez is one of the standout names admired by the sports management. However, sources close to the player confirmed to the newspaper that there is no movement from his side at the moment.

Reports in Argentina suggested that the Atlético Madrid striker wants to change his career path and could wear the Barcelona jersey at Spotify Camp Nou after the World Cup. However, the same sources emphasized that there is no agreement or official communication.

Álvarez is under contract with Atlético Madrid until 2030, after the Spanish club paid 75 million euros plus 10 million in variables to Manchester City. The sources confirmed that any potential interest must go through Atlético, as they hold the player’s rights.

The newspaper also quoted the player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, who previously confirmed that neither Barcelona nor any of its potential candidates have contacted him regarding the deal.
