We Tried Despite the Pitch, and This is Lautaro’s Condition

Inter Milan suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of the playoff qualifying round for the Champions League round of 16, as the Norwegian team took advantage of their artificial pitch and scored two quick goals in the second half.

Inter’s head coach, Cristian Chivu, spoke after the match, saying: “We tried despite the pitch, and at the same time, this is not an excuse, but I cannot be too harsh on the players.”

He added: “Bodo/Glimt are more accustomed to this surface, and this is not an excuse, the tie is still open, and there is a second leg.”

He continued: “We knew they were a team that could hurt you on counter-attacks, and now we will try to qualify for the next round at San Siro.”

In a concerning statement regarding Lautaro Martinez’s condition, Chivu said: “Lautaro sustained an injury, and it is somewhat serious.”

He added: “I think he is injured and will be out for a while.”

The coach also pointed out some issues within the team, saying: “We have some issues that we need to assess.”

When asked if the team showed a lack of determination, he said: “We asked to press the ball carrier, but that was not the problem.”

He concluded his remarks by saying: “The problem was that in some transitions, we were surprised by their speed in counter-attacks.”
