We Cannot Talk About Football, the Refereeing Standard is Unacceptable

Giorgio Chiellini made sharp statements following the Italian Derby match that brought together Juventus and Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, which ended with Inter Milan winning 3-2 in the final minutes.

Chiellini said: “We cannot talk about football, what happened is completely unacceptable.”

He continued: “Starting tomorrow, the video assistant system will be changed, the absence of an appropriate level in a match of this kind cannot be accepted, change must happen immediately, it cannot be postponed as often happens in Italian football.”

He added: “Since the beginning of the season, we have all pointed out the lack of a proper structure for Serie A, we tried to be constructive, but we cannot continue this way, now the level is not appropriate, I do not know if there is enough professionalism or training, but we cannot continue.”

Chiellini pointed to the refereeing protocol, saying: “The protocol needs to change, there were hasty decisions, last week De Rossi spoke, then Conte, there is something not working properly, and the protocol is part of that.”
